Maths Fluency
When learners have a range of efficient strategies at their fingertips, they're comfortable applying their knowledge in different situations. Building mathematical fluency gives them the skills and confidence necessary to succeed as mathematicians.
Key Stage One - NumBots
What is it?
The aim of NumBots is to ensure children develop a core understanding of maths from an early age, establishing a strong mathematical foundation which they can build upon as they progress through their education. It is a self-paced educational platform combined with an interactive, robot-immersed game.
What is it for?
NumBots is an online game and playing little and often will significantly improve your child’s recall and understanding of number bonds and addition and subtraction facts. These are critical foundations in maths so we are excited by the impact NumBots will have.
Little and often
In order to get the best out of NumBots children should regularly play for short bursts so we would ask you to give them 3 minutes, four five times a week.
Game Types
-
Story Mode – the emphasis is on learning the ideas and concepts behind addition and subtraction so it features more diagrams, shapes and question styles.
-
Challenge Mode – the emphasis is more on speed of recall of key facts, like number bonds to 10, doubling small numbers or adding & taking away in your head.
Key Stage Two - Times Tables Rock Stars
What is it?
Times Tables Rock Stars is a carefully sequenced programme of daily times tables practice.
What is it for?
It aims to improve children's recall of their times tables and increase the speed at which they are able to recall them. This will then help with other areas of maths as children will be able to use their working memory for other tasks.
Little and often
In order to get the best out of TTRS children should regularly play for short bursts so we would ask you to give them 5 minutes, five times a week.

Fluency Support - 1-Minute Maths from White Rose
What is it?
The 1-Minute Maths app by White Rose helps children to build greater number confidence and fluency. It’s all about targeted practice in engaging, one-minute chunks!
Who is it for?
This first version of the app is aimed at Key Stage 1 pupils, and focuses on adding and subtracting – and on ‘Subitising’. The free mobile app is available for Apple/iOS, Android and Kindle.
How does it work?
1-Minute Maths offers children engaging and easily accessible practice in basic number. There’s no specific route or
starting point. Having chosen a topic, each user answers a series of randomly generated questions (a different set of questions every time means they learn the concept, not a sequence of answers).
When the one minute’s up, the questions are automatically marked and presented on a breakdown screen, giving instant feedback on how they’ve done. If they’re struggling with a question, a ‘Hint’ button reformats the question as a familiar manipulative display that mirrors the approaches used in the White Rose Maths schemes of learning.
Parents can attend maths parent workshops explaining how we teach maths across the school. You can also speak to your class teacher at any time to find out more information.
